This two day studio program is designed for students who enjoy imaginative thinking, hands on building, and detailed creative work.

Each student will design and build a freestanding display cabinet approximately 18 inches tall with multiple shelves, creating a miniature world of their own design. This is not a dollhouse and not a toy shelf. It is an artistic display that blends storytelling, design, and construction into a finished piece meant to be kept and displayed.

What students will do

Students will begin by choosing a theme and planning how their world will come together visually and spatially.

Over the two days, they will:
• assemble and paint the wooden cabinet
• design and build miniature elements using a wide range of materials
• work with scale, layout, and shelf composition
• make intentional design choices that create a cohesive display

Instruction emphasizes slowing down, thinking through ideas, and building with purpose rather than rushing to fill space.

The creative focus

This program emphasizes:
• imagination paired with structure
• problem solving through design and making
• attention to detail and visual balance
• working independently within a group setting

Themes might include an art gallery, a cozy interior, a fantasy environment, or something entirely original.

Finished project

Each student will leave with a substantial, finished display cabinet that feels personal, visually complete, and sturdy enough to keep and display at home.

This project is intentionally designed to be something students can continue adding to over time if they choose.

Who this program is best for

This program is a good fit for students who:
• enjoy imaginative and detailed work
• like building and designing physical structures
• can focus for extended periods
• are comfortable working independently in a group

It is intentionally designed for ages 9 and up and is not a good fit for younger children.

Daily details

• Participants should bring a sack lunch and water bottle each day
• We provide an afternoon snack
• If your child has dietary restrictions, please send an appropriate snack from home
• Required paperwork including a waiver and studio guidelines will be emailed prior to the program

Parents or guardians are welcome to stop in briefly during the day, as long as visits do not interfere with group instruction or the creative process.
