Slow down for a full Saturday of color, creativity, and hands on learning as you make your own watercolor paints from scratch and then spend the afternoon painting with them. This class is for ages 18+ up.
During the first half of the day, we’ll mix binder, work with pigments, fill 14 half pans, and test your colors on paper while learning how watercolor paint is made and how to recreate it at home.
It’s a useful skill for anyone tired of buying watercolor sets filled with colors they barely touch. Once you know how to make your own, you can control pigment strength, mix custom shades, and refill only the colors you use most. We’ll also cover specialty finishes such as metallic and color shift paints.
After a lunch break, we’ll ease into the second half of the day by using your custom palette on small watercolor pieces such as cards and bookmarks.
Feel free to bring a lunch or enjoy any of the very good restaurants within a block or two of our studio.
Each attendee will take home a metal travel palette with 14 custom half pans, along with the recipe, proportions, and supply list needed to make more later.
This retreat day is designed to be both skill building and relaxing, with plenty of time to experiment, play with color, and enjoy the process.
All skill levels welcome.
Limited to 10 seats for plenty of space and individual attention.
