Myths and Legends Summer Program Ages 10+
Max Capacity: 10
We'll explore a variety of myths and legends that have captured the hearts and imaginations of people throughout the ages. We plan to use a variety of mediums including air dry and polymer clay, acrylic paint, mixed media and even upcycled items.
We'll write and illustrate a story, paint and decorate a really awesome castle carrying case, create a diorama, and learn about legends from all around the world.
This program is going to be led by the kids :). We are going to let them tell us their favorite creatures and lead projects designed to incorporate them.
Dates: Tuesday, June 15th - Friday, June 18th
Times: 10:30am - 3:00pm daily. Sack lunch required every day except Friday. Friday we'll have a pizza party. We provide bottles of water and one snack each day. Weather permitting we will try to have a picnic lunch at the square where we can stretch and get some fresh air at least one of the days.
Cost: $150 includes all project materials, t-shirt, daily snack/water, and a Friday pizza party.
Projects:
Each attendee will get a castle treasure box. These large carrying case castle boxes are ready to paint and embellish with your decorative touches. They'll also be great for holding other projects as we complete them!
We will ice dye a t-shirt and put your child's favorite legendary creature on it.
We'll build a diorama using a variety of items to create a "habitat" for a legendary creature of choice. We will explore papier mache, air dry clay, painting, upcycling and more. Examples include fairy gardens, dragon lairs, bigfoot forests etc.
We will plan, draw and create a painting on canvas while learning some more advanced painting techniques. We'll explore different brushes, texture mediums and more as we create a piece of ready to hang art.
Each child will be given a hardcover blank art book. We will spend time writing and illustrating a short story or legend of our own after we explore some popular folklore from around the world.
- acrylic on canvas butterfly fairies
- blank books we’ll use to create and illustrate a story
- diorama example – we’re going to get really creative
- our castle carrying cases – they’re amazing inside and out!
- inside castle box
Piper Rinderer will be in the 5th grade this fall. Her Birthday is August 30, 2011. So she will turn 10 at that time. Piper has taken several art classes from Paulette Todd. Could she sign-up?
Sure, she’s really close and it sounds like she loves art :). My son was born in August too – those cutoffs were always a bit tricky, but we’re open to it if you are. Go ahead and sign her up. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!
